1. Be on time. Any missed lesson time due to lateness will not be credited or made up.
2. Come prepared:
3. Nails must be trimmed and cleaned. Long nails prevent the correct placement of your hand on the keyboard, and dirt under the fingernails is very visible against the whiteness of the keyboard. Hands must be washed and cleaned. It is very unpleasant for the teacher to touch sticky and dirty hands, and it is simply ghastly to play on a sticky keyboard left behind after a previous student. Not to mention, it is very unhygienic and can be highly infectious. Please be kind and considerate to students that come after you.
4. Bathroom facilities are not available at this time, but are provided in case of emergency. The time lost for the use of my home facilities will be deducted from the lesson time and it will not be credited or made up.
5. Shoes must be removed and changed to slippers or socks only. No bare feet are allowed. Please remember though, that the floors in the studio are cold, and feet in socks are not conducive to learning the correct pedaling technique. Also, please have a sweater or a sweat shirt with you, even in the summer, as the studio has a set colder temperature to prevent the instrument going out of tune.
6. No food or drink is allowed in the studio.
7. Please turn off all of your electronic devices including watches, which should not be worn to the lesson in the first place. By the way, checking your cell phone at the piano during a lesson is not only disrespectful, but interrupts your concentration.
8. Please behave in a way that shows respect for your teacher and for other people in the studio.
1. Provide the right environment for your child to study piano, starting with an acoustic piano. The worst tunable acoustic piano is better than the best digital instrument. I will accept students with digital instruments, but only if the parents are committed to providing an acoustic piano within the first 10 weeks of signing their child with my studio.
2. Be present at every lesson, especially if your child is a beginner. You don’t need to know anything about music. By sitting on each lesson you will learn enough to be able to supervise the practice sessions with your child, which will be enormously beneficial. Bad habits usually form in the beginning and they are extremely difficult to rectify later.
3. Provide a quiet and well lit environment that is conducive to focus during practice sessions.
4. Make sure that weekly assignments are completed.
